Welcome to our Callaway Chrome Tour review. In 2024, Callaway have introduced three new additions to the Chrome family: a fresh Chrome Soft model, along with the all-new Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X models. Callaway invested significantly in the research and development of these golf balls, and I’m here to share my thoughts on the Callaway Chrome Tour.
The Chrome Soft is crafted for both professionals and amateurs, offering the softest feel and lowest compression of the three balls. On the other hand, the Chrome Tour X is engineered for maximum compression, firmness, and spin, and is tailored primarily for advanced players, with very fast swing speeds.
The Chrome Tour is then designed to offer performance characteristics which compromise between the Chrome Tour X and Chrome Soft, providing what is still a high compression golf ball, with just a slightly softer feel than the Chrome Tour X.

Callaway Chrome Tour Review
Pros ✅ | Cons ❌ |
---|---|
Exceptional Spin Control | Very Expensive |
Appearance is Pristine | |
Very Stable, Strong Ball Flight |
✅ Exceptional Spin Control
I started using the Callaway Chrome Tour with some short pitches and chips on the putting green before taking them onto the golf course. Right away, I was impressed with the levels of spin control I was getting. The Chrome Tour definitely delivers more spin compared to the Chrome Soft model, and I’d go as far as saying the spin I experienced was even a bit more than what you get with the Titleist Pro V1 or ProV1X.
Nevertheless, the overall feel provided by the Titleist Pro V1 is probably a bit better, however just purely based off greenside spin control the Chrome Tour came out on top for me.
✅ Appearance is Pristine
I often feel when using Callaway golf balls that I don’t quite get the same visual aesthetic compared to using Titleist or Srixon golf balls. I think the Callaway Chrome Tour broke this trend for me. I was extremely impressed with the appearance of the golf ball, as a premium, tour-level golf ball.
✅ Very Stable, Strong Ball Flight
Possibly due to the high compression of this golf ball, I certainly felt as though the flight I was achieving was very penetrating and stable, resulting in very long drives and iron shots.
Comparing with other golf balls of similar calibre, I saw approximately 7 yards more distance with driver with the Chrome Tour, compared to the TaylorMade TP5. I felt that this extra distance I was seeing was a result of the stable, penetrating flight that the Chrome Tour was producing.
This stability and length off the tee, coupled with its other noteworthy features, adds a solid overall appeal of the Callaway Chrome Tour on the course.
❌ Very Expensive
Presently, the Callaway Chrome Tour and Callaway Chrome Tour X rank among the pricier golf balls on the market.
While their exceptional distance and spin control may justify the cost, it’s important to acknowledge the availability of more budget-friendly alternatives. For everyday golfers who may not find the need for such advanced features, there are plenty of budget-friendly golf balls to explore.
It’s important to remember that the Chrome Tour models are specifically tailored for tour-level and skilled golfers with faster club head speeds. The Chrome Tour’s high compression rating of 90 may feel too firm for those with slower club head speeds. As a result, the noticeable distance benefits of the Chrome Tour may only really be apparent among golfers with higher club head speeds.
Callaway Chrome Tour Summary
To wrap up this Callaway Chrome Tour review, let’s consider the kind of golfer who might benefit from this golf ball and those who might not find it as suitable.
Geared towards golfers with faster club head speeds (over 105-110 mph), this high-compression Callaway Chrome Tour golf ball caters to those seeking extra distance off the tee along with top-tier spin control.
However, the Chrome Tour may not be the go-to choice for beginners or golfers with slower swing speeds. The firmer feel might not align well, potentially compromising optimal flight and distance.
