Welcome to our Callaway Chrome Tour X review. In 2024, Callaway launched 3 new balls to the Chrome family, a new Chrome Soft model, along with brand new Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X models.

The Callaway Chrome Tour X is the firmest of the 3, offering the highest compression rate, highest spin rates and firmest feel. In this Callaway Chrome Tour X review, I’ll share the insights from my assessment of the golf ball, and provide information for you to decide whether or not this golf ball suits your game.

Callaway Chrome Tour X Review

Pros ✅ Cons ❌
Perfect Spin Control Very Expensive
Appearance is Pristine Not Suitable For Slower Swings
Very Long

✅ Perfect Spin Control

I was immediately impressed with the spin control I achieved using the Chrome Tour X. When it comes to executing consistent, one-bounce stops with smaller pitches, this ball proved to be near perfect.

In terms of greenside spin control within 30 yards, it stands out among the premium golf balls I’ve tested. Surpassing alternatives like the Titleist Pro V1, Srixon Z Star XV, or TaylorMade TP5.

While the overall feel may not quite match up to some other balls, purely in terms of spin around the greens, the Chrome Tour X is a tough competitor to beat.

✅ Appearance is Pristine

One thing I often feel when using Callaway golf balls is that they never look as good as Titleist or Srixon golf balls. Ultimately, I never feel as though Callaway balls feel as premium or pristine as some of the other top golf brands.

Nevertheless, the Chrome Tour X may have broken this trend for me. I was extremely impressed with the appearance of these golf balls, as they really do look like premium, tour-level golf balls.

✅ Very Long

The Callaway Chrome Tour has a compression rating of 98, making it one of Callaway’s highest compression golf balls. As a result, the Chrome Tour X offers a noticeably firmer feel, which for some golfers can result in longer drives.

For golfers with swing speeds of above 110 mph, the Chrome Tour X will likely provide additional distance off the tee compared to other premium golf balls. My club head speed with driver is approximately 112 mph, when I used the Chrome Tour X, I found it was going over 5 yards further with driver compared to the Srixon Z Star Diamond, TaylorMde TP5, Callaway Chrome Soft and Titleist Pro V1.

❌ Very Expensive

Currently, the Callaway Chrome Tour X is one of the most expensive golf balls on the market. Maybe this is justified with the remarkable distance and spin control that is achievable, but it’s still worth noting that there are much cheaper options out there, and it’s probably not necessary for everyday golfers to be spending this kind of money if they don’t feel like they need to.

❌ Not Suitable For Slower Swings

In addition to the price of the Chrome Tour X, it’s important to note that this golf ball is really only designed for high level golfers with very fast club head speeds. For golfers with slower club head speeds, the high compression rating of 98 will likely feel too firm, and a lot of the distance benefits of the Chrome Tour X won’t be as observable.

Callaway Chrome Tour X Summary

To wrap up this Callaway Chrome Tour X review, let’s consider the kind of golfer who might benefit from this golf ball and those who might not find it as suitable.

As previously mentioned, the very high compression Callaway Chrome Tour X is designed for golfers with faster club head speeds (over 110 mph,) who are looking for additional distance off the tee, along with the best spin control on the market.

This golf ball is not designed for beginners or golfer with slower swing speeds, as it will likely feel too firm and you’ll struggle to achieve an optimal flight and distance with driver and the longer irons.
