Our Analysis – Srixon Distance Review
β Great Distance
Probably a feature that is pretty self explanatory giving the name of this golf ball. Nevertheless there a plenty of golf balls out there that are purely designed for distance that don’t necessarily provide the extra gains off the tee that you’d expect. Our assessment did confirm that the Srixon Distance was great at providing extra distance both of the tee and with longer irons. With the longer irons in the bag, there was approximately a 4-5 yard carry improvement when compared to alternative balls of similar price.Β It’s worth mentioning that this added distance is most noticeable for golfers with moderate to faster swing speeds, as the Srixon Distance’s firm feel may not optimise distance as efficiently for those with slower swings. If your driver carry is below 160 yards, the ball’s firmness might hinder your ability to capitalise on its potential distance. Consequently, we don’t recommend this ball for golfers with slower swing speeds who carry the golf ball less than 160 yards with driver.
β Durable
Due to the firm feel of this ball, good durability is somewhat expected, yet for a cheap golf ball it’s not always guaranteed. There were virtually no scuff marks following the end of our assessment which was excellent to see. This impressive durability ensures that golfers can enjoy extended use without compromising the ball’s performance, making it a reliable and cost-effective choice for those seeking both longevity and affordability with their golf ball.
β Solid Flight
This golf ball demonstrated excellent stability during our assessment, maintaining a penetrating, solid flight even in strong winds. During our trials, shots hit into the wind with the Srixon Distance exhibited noticeably less impact than those with alternative balls we tested. This strong ball flight is particularly valuable as it ensures a consistent and reliable performance. This is particularly important for those golfers who lack the ability to purposely keep the ball low in windy conditions.
β Low Spinning
Low spin is generally great for golfers to optimise distance off the tee. However, the lack of spin was also noticeable around the greens as the golf ball was not producing much spin when chipping and pitching. This wasn’t really a surprise during our assessment as the Srixon Distance is not designed or known for its ability to produce spin and consistent feel around the greens. So to be honest, this lack of spin really was justified and not surprising. Particularly with more affordable golf balls that prioritise distance optimisation, the likelihood of finding one that excels in both distance and spin around the greens is rare (almost impossible at a low price.)
β Harder Feel
Much like the lack of spin around the greens, the Srixon Distance also lacks in providing a soft feel around the greens. It’s worth acknowledging that some individuals may prefer this firmer feel, however, the majority of golfers tend to prefer a softer feel, (including myself.) Despite this, it’s important to recognise that this firm feeling is predominantly responsible for the Srixon Distance’s ability in achieving extra distance off the tee and with iron shots. Therefore, labelling this “harder feel” as a strictly negative aspect is not 100% accurate, as it essentially defines the golf ball’s unique characteristics and performance capabilities.
Summary
In summary, this golf ball is a suitable choice for players prioritising distance over increased spin and feel around the greens. We would suggest that these distance benefits will be mostly optimised for golfers with mid to fast club head speeds, so as mentioned previously, if you struggle to carry the golf ball over 160 yards, then this is likely not the golf ball for you. But otherwise, a very strong contender and a no wonder why it’s among our top recommendations for budget-friendly golf balls.
