Excellent Soft Feel
Probably the feature I was most excited to uncover when testing the Q Star Tour was the softness of the ball. Srixon claim that this is their softest ball yet, even surpassing the feel of their most premium golf ball: the Srixon Z Star. True to expectations, the Q Star Tour lived up to its promise of a soft feel, immediately noticeable during our assessment. I believe this soft feeling was the standout feature of the Q Star Tour during our testing.
High Launch with Driver
The Q Star Tour is aimed at golfers with mid-range club head speed, and is optimised for a high launch off the tee, which is ideal for golfers who struggle getting height with driver. This is especially important during the winter months where golfers are unable to rely so much on firm bounces and roll-out on burnt, summer fairways. If you fall into the category of golfers with a mid-range club head speed, typically between 90mph and 105mph with driver, and find the need to achieve a higher launch, this golf ball should effectively optimise both your distance and trajectory off the tee.
All-around Solid Golf Ball
There are no significant drawbacks to this golf ball. Srixon have designed a relatively premium golf ball that is suitable to any club golfer, at what is honestly a fair price. The feeling, durability, spin around the green and overall distance are all commendable, solid aspects of the Q Star Tour. If you’re not aiming to specifically enhance one aspect of your game and are seeking consistent excellence across the board, the Q Star Tour should meet your expectations well.
Not Optimal for Faster Swings
Golfers with faster swings, particularly those who naturally achieve a high launch with driver, may experience suboptimal distance off the tee with the Q Star Tour. If your driver swing exceeds around 112mph and you already feel satisfied that you launch the ball high enough, then using this ball might result in a loss of distance. The Q Star Tour is better tailored to assist golfers with average swing speeds in gaining additional apex and carry distance. Particularly in windy conditions, the ball’s tendency for a high launch could be a drawback for those with both high club head speed and a naturally high launch off the tee.

Summary
Overall, a very solid golf ball which is difficult to fault. Ideal for golfers with average club head speeds to optimise their game off the tee, and perfect for anyone who’s after a premium soft feel, especially around the greens. As mentioned above, the only player that we would not recommend this ball to are those golfers with high club head speeds and high launch with driver.
Srixon’s attempt to provide a premium golf ball without the premium price tag to regular club golfers proves to be successful. Nevertheless, this ball isn’t necessarily ‘cheap’, just cheaper compared to alternative golf balls used on tour. If the price of the Srixon Q Star Tour is still on the expensive side for you, then check out our assessment of the best budget golf balls.Β
