Welcome to our Srixon Z Star review. The Srixon Z star is
one of Srixon’s premium golf balls, and was the first ball released in the Z
Star family; which now also includes the Srixon Z Star Diamond and Srixon Z
Star XV. There’s a bit of confusion between the traits of the three golf balls,
but out of the three, the regular Srixon Z Star is said to be the softest,
whilst producing the most greenside spin. This review will analyse the
characteristics of the Z Star, to see if it suits your game.

Srixon Z Star Pros and Cons
Pros ✅ | Cons ❌ |
Excellent Soft Feel | Not Optimal for Faster Swings |
Precise Spin Control | |
Low Spin with Driver |
✅ Excellent Soft Feel
The standout feature which caught my attention during this evaluation was the superb soft feel of the Z Star. I like the feel of many Srixon golf balls, for example, the Srixon Q Star Tour, but I felt as though the Srixon Z Star was the golf ball which felt the best for me. It’s extremely soft and gentle on the hands, yet strong, as though it will produce a penetrating ball flight. In my experience, the feel of the Z Star is rivalled by only a select few premium golf balls; the Titleist Pro V1 and TaylorMade TP5.
✅ Precise Spin Control
The Z Star is Srixon’s highest spinning golf ball around the greens. The spin control that I noticed during the assessment was superb, and several other golfers that have used the Srixon Z Star also comment on the excellent spin control around the green. With small pitches there was an observable ‘one bounce, stop’ action I was getting which is ideal for maximising control from around the greens.
✅ Low Spin with Driver
Srixon say that this golf ball produces a ‘mid’ flight and low spin with driver. A low spinning driver generally results in the ball flying further and straighter off the tee. While I didn’t entirely feel this low spin off the tee; it was nearly there. The problem is, my club speed is around 112 mph which is more suited to a firmer golf ball. The Z Star is more suited to a driver club speed of around 90 – 100 mph (or approximate carry distance of 200 to 240 yards.) Many golfers with this type of swing speed have commented that they’ve observed extra distance and optimal flight with driver.
❌ Not Optimal for Faster Swings
Currently, there aren’t really any top golfers on the PGA tour that use the Srixon Z Star, because they all swing too fast for this ball. As previously mentioned, the Srixon Z Star is designed for golfers with club head speeds of around 90 – 100 mph. Srixon have alternative premium golf balls that are more suited to golfers who swing the golf ball faster. Despite the Srixon Z Star not being that popular on the PGA tour, there are plenty of PGA tour golfers which use the Srixon Z Star XV or Srixon Z Star Diamond, which is designed for faster club head speeds.
Additionally, more golfers on the LPGA tour are using the Srixon Z Star, for example, Minjee Lee and Inbee Park. This is expected as the average club head speed with driver for women on the LPGA tour is 94 mph compared to 113 mph for men on the PGA tour.

Srixon offer this golf ball in both white and yellow, and provide the ability to add various logos, images, flags and alignment aids in their customise option on the Srixon website.
Srixon Z Star Review – Summary
I would recommend this golf ball to golfers seeking an exceptionally soft feel, along with precise spin control. The Z Star is best suited to those golfers with club head speeds between 90 and 100 mph. Driver swing speeds which comfortably exceed 100 mph are more suited to the Srixon Z Star XV or Srixon Z Star Diamond. Alternatively, if your swing speed is much slower than 90 mph but you’re still looking to purchase a Srixon golf ball, alternatives such as the Srixon Q Star Tour or Srixon Soft Feel are great options to consider.
This actually answered my drawback, thank you!
Keep functioning ,great job!
