This TaylorMade Soft Select review is purely based off personal experience from the golf course and insights from other golfers’ experience. As of February 2024, TaylorMade do not provide any information on their website regarding the Soft Select.

TaylorMade regularly introduce new products and quickly update their stock. So it’s not so surprising that there’s no information regarding this ball at the moment, as it’s not one of their latest models.

TaylorMade Soft Select Review

Pros ✅ Cons ❌
Looks like a Premium Ball Lacking Spin Control
Great Soft Feel
Surprisingly Durable

✅ Looks Like a Premium Ball

Typically, premium golf balls like the Titleist Pro V1 or TaylorMade TP5X boast an upscale and more premium appearance, given their higher price. Surprisingly, despite not being a high-end tour-level ball, I felt as though the Soft Select matched this premium aesthetic.

A visually appealing golf ball doesn’t necessarily equate to superior performance; however, it can instil some added confidence which is always a benefit. I suppose it’s always a positive to be looking at a ball which is visually appealing.

✅ Great Soft Feel

I suppose it wouldn’t make sense naming the golf ball ‘Soft Select’ if a soft feeling wasn’t an attribute the ball offered. The Soft Select impressed me with its premium soft feel, delivering a comfortable and responsive feeling, similar to the Srixon Soft Feel or Callaway Supersoft

Generally, golfers prefer a softer feeling because softer balls feel a bit more playable and easier to hit, but it’s important to experiment and figure out what your personal preference is.

✅ Surprisingly Durable

Generally speaking, less expensive golf balls aren’t as durable, with noticeable scratch and scuff marks after a couple of rounds. However, based on feedback from other golfers who’ve used the Soft Select, it seems that this golf ball stands out for its impressive durability.

Durable golf balls ensure cost savings, consistent performance, and increased longevity in the performance characteristics of the golf ball over an extended period of time.

❌ Lacking Spin Control

Before trying the Soft Select, I came across feedback from other golfers mentioning concerns about greenside spin control. Unfortunately, I found this aspect to be a slight drawback as well.

From 100 yards and in, there was a slight lack of control with the Soft Select not quite producing enough check and spin as I would personally like.

While it’s uncommon for more budget friendly golf balls to have good spin control, there are some alternatives balls that were performing better than the Soft Select in this aspect during my assessment; including the Titleist Tru Feel and Srixon Soft Feel

Where Can I Buy the TaylorMade Soft Select?

As mentioned earlier, the TaylorMade Soft Select, being a slightly older model, is not currently sold on the TaylorMade website or Amazon. However, viable alternatives like the TaylorMade RBZ Soft and TaylorMade Soft Response are readily available on the TaylorMade website or on Amazon.

For those interested in the Soft Select specifically, it might be found among second-hand lake balls on platforms like eBay or other online marketplaces.

TaylorMade Soft Select Summary

To wrap up this TaylorMade Soft Select review, let’s consider the kind of golfer who might benefit from this golf ball and those who might not find it as suitable.

If you’re not keen on splurging on a premium golf ball but desire something that mimics the feel and appearance of one, the TaylorMade Soft Select is an excellent choice.

If you’re somebody who prefers a firmer feel then maybe try the Callaway Superhot, or if you want a bit more spin without paying the premium price, then try the Srixon Q Star Tour.

  1. Hello! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any problems with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no back up. Do you have any solutions to protect against hackers?
