Our Analysis – Titleist AVX Review
✅ Low Spin with Driver
During testing the Titleist AVX, the ball seemed to consistently deliver a lower trajectory and reduced spin with driver. This was especially noticeable with the drives hit into the wind, where we felt as though the ball was much more penetrating and low spinning. For someone like me, who tends to launch the ball too high and generate excessive spin, this characteristic of the AVX was ideal, and it felt as though I was getting some extra distance as a result of this more optimum flight. If you share a similar struggle with regards to excessive height and spin off the tee, the AVX is recommended for what should result in a more optimum ball flight.
✅ Superb Distance
The distance you can achieve with this golf ball, both off the tee and with your irons, will primarily be based off your current ball flight tendencies. If you tend to put too much spin on the ball, you’ll likely notice an extra boost in distance. Personally, I observed a noticeable improvement in the distance of my longer irons from the fairway, given my tendency to generate too much spin and height. If you struggle with excessive spin, the AVX should offer a slight edge in terms of hitting the ball a bit farther, in comparison to other premium golf balls like the Titleist Pro V1, TaylorMade TP5, or the Callaway Chrome Soft.
✅ Exceptional Soft Feel
One of the first characteristics we noticed from reviewing the Titleist AVX was the soft feel. This is an expected feature with a premium golf ball like the AVX, but it was surprising nonetheless to experience such a soft feel alongside such a penetrating, low spinning ball flight off the tee. While this soft feel is undoubtedly a commendable feature, it becomes challenging to distinguish between the AVX and other premium alternatives based solely on feel. The softness, although excellent, doesn’t necessarily provide an overwhelming advantage over other premium golf balls from leading brands like Titleist, Callaway, or TaylorMade, as they all deliver a similar soft feel.
❌ Not Very Durable
The only slightly lacking quality of the AVX that we noticed in our assessment was the durability of the ball. Early on, we observed a few scuffs, and the ball seemed to show signs of wear sooner than anticipated. This lack of durability is partly expected due to the extremely soft feel, and while the durability is somewhat less than that of other premium alternatives, it’s not a significant drawback. Overall, the slight decrease in durability is a minor trade-off for the exceptional softness the AVX provides.
Summary
In conclusion, our evaluation of this golf ball left us thoroughly impressed. We believe it stands as the most under-rated premium golf ball on the market, often overshadowed, perhaps unfairly, by the Pro V1. As reiterated throughout this review, the Titleist AVX is a hidden gem recommended for golfers who contend with excessive spin and higher-than-optimal ball flights. Conversely, if you struggle to generate spin and height, especially off the tee, this ball might not be the most suitable choice, as achieving optimal flight and total distance may be better realized with alternatives more aligned with your swing characteristics.
