Welcome to the clash of the titans in the golf ball world –TP5 vs Pro V1, arguably the best two balls in the game. Both are excellent and extremely popular on tour, but they cater to different preferences. For many golfers, the Pro V1 has been engrained in their minds as the best golf ball for several reasons. It’s often marketed as the best ball in pro shops, it’s heavily used on tour, and it’s often the most expensive ball you can find. Despite all of this, it may not be the best golf ball for you.
In this comparison , we’ll dissect the characteristics that set these two golf balls apart. From spin rates, pricing, distance and feel, we’ll break down the strengths and weaknesses of each ball. Along the way, we’ll share insights from our testing process, where the TP5 showcased more spin with irons from the fairway, but the Pro V1 delivered an overall better feel around the greens.

Flight
The greatest difference we felt during our testing involved the flight patterns of these two balls. The Pro V1 exhibited a lower flight; especially with driver. On the flip side, the TP5 clearly flew with a slightly higher trajectory, catering to players who prefer a higher ball flight, or maybe those who struggle carrying the ball far enough through the air. Personally, I preferred the Pro V1 because I have a tendency to hit the ball too high off the tee, so I need something that will bring the flight down. This is just personal preference and if you are somebody who could do with hitting the ball higher, then the TP5 will likely be better for you.
Distance
The difference in distance between the TaylorMade TP5 and Titleist Pro V1 is minimal and largely dependent on individual ball flight characteristics. In my testing, I found very little differences between both golf balls. However, for those with a naturally higher ball flight, like mine, the Pro V1 may offer slightly better optimisation. On the whole, the choice between the two depends on individual trajectory preferences, with the TP5 potentially edging out in distance for the average golfer.
Spin & Softness
The Pro V1 excels in providing a soft touch and responsive feedback, ideal for finesse around the greens with smaller chip shots. On the other hand, the TP5, while also offering good feel around the greens, was more noticeable in generating remarkable spin, with longer iron shots.
Regarding spin, we felt that the TP5 had an edge with irons from the fairway, while the Pro V1 stood out in generating spin around the greens.
FAQ Section – TP5 vs Pro V1
Q: Which ball is best for you?
A: If you are looking to hit the ball higher off the tee and generate more spin with iron shots from the fairway, then we’d recommend the TP5. If you are looking for a flatter, more penetrating flight off the tee and more spin when chipping around the greens, then we’d recommend the Pro V1.
Q: Which ball is better for high handicappers?
A: Both balls cater to a range of handicaps, but the TP5’s forgiving nature off the tee might be preferred by high handicappers.
Q: Are these balls suitable for amateur golfers?
