Wilson Duo Soft Review - Pros & Cons

Pros ✅ Cons ❌
Quality Soft Feel Lacking in Spin Control
High Launching
Perfect For Golfers With Slower Swings

✅ Quality Soft Feel

The preference of most golfers is a softer feel off the club face, particularly when it comes to wedges and iron shots. As previously mentioned, Wilson claim that the Duo Soft model is ‘the world’s softest golf ball’. With a compression rating of 40, it certainly is extremely soft and easy to hit.

While there may be other golf balls providing a comparable soft sensation to the Wilson Duo Soft, what sets it apart is the surprisingly affordable price for the quality of feel it delivers.

✅ High Launching

Golf balls which have lower compression (like the Wilson Duo Soft), are softer, and easier to compress, meaning they will also generally launch higher.

I noticed this feature during my assessment of the Duo Soft, so I suppose the Duo Soft was reacting as expected in this regard. This ‘high launching’ aspect will benefit many golfers in providing a more optimal flight, along with additional distance with irons and drives.

✅ Perfect For Golfers With Slower Swings

Soft and high-launching golf balls cater to golfers with slower club head speeds. Models like the Srixon UltiSoft or Titleist Tour Soft are specifically crafted for those who appreciate a gentler impact sensation, often resulting in optimal distance and flight for such players.

The Wilson Duo Soft falls within this category, sharing the softer and higher-launching attributes that align with the preferences of golfers seeking a softer feel during play.

❌ Lacking in Spin Control

I’m yet to test a golf ball which is cheap but offers good spin control around the greens, so it’s fair to say that this feature of the Wilson Duo Soft was expected.

However, in this aspect, it still fell slightly behind options like the Srixon Soft Feel or Callaway SuperSoft, both of which are only marginally more expensive than the Wilson Duo Soft.

Wilson Duo Soft Summary

To wrap up this Wilson Duo Soft review, let’s consider the kind of golfer who might benefit from this golf ball and those who might not find it as suitable.

As previously mentioned, the very low compression is designed for golfers with slower club head speeds who are looking to optimise their height and distance with a softer, higher launching golf ball.

This golf ball is not designed for golfers seeking a firmer feel, with faster club head speeds. Nor is it designed for those golfers who are looking for precise spin control.
